The word for today is - Servant !

Good morning,
The word for today is - Servant !

My question is this, what is a Servant or who is an Servant? I started thinking about this question this morning, am I a good Servant of the Lord? Lets first find the meanning, what does the dictionary say a servant is? Its a person who serves others: an individual who performs duties for others. It is to humble oneself and put the good of others before self. Are we willing to set aside for second place and put others before ourselves?  It is the opposite of pride and arrogance, or wanting to elevate self. Are we willing to give up being noticed?  Christ calls us to be servants, so we have to learn what a good servant is first ! Christ gave us the example of a servant when he washed the Disciple's feet. You see in the church today we have people seeking for Glory.  I am afraid that some people are motivated more by a desire to be served, to lead and get honor, or to receive praise. But the Lord says in His word all Glory and Honor is His! The Bible calls on us to be servants, understand that if anyone that continue with a carnal mind set can never become servants of God. Read Romans 8:5-8, For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So, then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Jesus defined what it means to be a servant, read John 13:3-17, Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. Read the last verse again, this is Jesus talking to His disciples, it says if ye know these things and do them then you will be doing the will of God and you will be happy. Read John 12:26, If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. The word tells us to follow the greatest Servant of time Jesus! If we have the attitude of service we will have compassion on the lost and desire to take the gospel to them.  If we are applying the servant principle we will not be concerned about who "gets credit" for teaching others, its not about us, its about the work of the Lord. We also need to have a different attitude toward others. We should not be offended when people make mistakes, we should be willing to help others and not expect any reciprocal benefit. We should treat each other as if we are all children learning about God’s kingdom. Its all about the Souls, its about reaching out to the Lost. For me all I need to hear is my Lord and Savior say is, well done my good and faith servant come on in! Read Matthew 25:21, His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.Thank you Lord for your word. Amen !
